A collection of Scottish words

We stumbled across a charming letter sent by Mrs N Brown (80) of Glasgow to  the Sunday Post in 1981.

“The other day I started to think of some old words that  are seldom heard now that  are hard to  beat for conveying meaning.

Here are some.  Bauchle – a wee Glasca gent.  Carnaptiopus – fault finding .  Fushionless – tasteless.  Glaiket – stupid.  Nae smeddum – lack of guts or spirit.  Plouts – soaking a sore finger in hot borax water. Shoogly – unsteady or shaky.”
