And it is all down to the defunct letter in Old Scots, the little known ‘yogh’ pronounced ‘yoch,’
The written yogh looked like a ‘z’ but was pronounced like a ‘y’
The Menzies family continues to thrive and once there was a John Menzies newsagent on hundreds of high streets throughout the UK. Now the shops have gone but it is common to see Menzies Distribution at airports.
